About Festival sARTée
The Festival sARTée expands the energy and excitement of the Ringling International Arts Festival (RIAF), Sarasota-Manatee, October 13-17, 2010. For two weeks surrounding the RIAF, the Festival sARTée, Oct. 8-24, showcases the region's world-class arts and culture ranging from theater, dance, music, visual art, live music and more in a variety of venues throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties. Festival sARTée derives its name from both Sarasota and Manatee Counties, joined by the common element of art. The counties are situated along Florida's west coast. The first Festival sARTée is organized through a partnership between the Arts Council of Manatee County, Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Realize Bradenton, Inc., Sarasota Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Sarasota County Arts Council.
The Ringling International Arts Festival, in its second year, is a partnership between The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida and the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City and delights in bringing together emerging artists in theater, dance and music from the around the world for a five-day festival.

Description: Dr. Caren Neile directs the South Florida Storytelling Project at Florida Atlantic University, where she is faculty in storytelling studies. She has performed, lectured and published throughout the country and abroad. Her performance will be entitled, "Memories of A Florida Pioneer Family." Around the turn of the 20th century, the children whose parents settled the South Florida city of Delray Beach lived in tents and swam with baby alligators. You'll enjoy the amazing true story of one such family in this lively, one-of-a-kind performance. Description: ArtSlam in downtown Bradenton takes art out of the studios, galleries, theatres, and books and onto Old Main Street so everyone can connect with the creative process. ArtSlam is a juried event designed to showcase the collaborative creativity of artists, designers, musicians, dancers, story tellers, poets, performers, and other creatives. 12 teams in 12 hours will evolve art before our eyes that will be documented and critiqued real time via social mediastreaming video, Facebook and twitter. Description: Book by James Lapine, Music by Stephen Sondheim, Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. One of the most acclaimed musicals of our time, this moving study of the enigmatic painter Georges Seurat won a Pulitzer Prize for its deeply insightful and highly personal examination of life through art and the artist. Act One follows the inarticulate Seurat as he fights a losing battle to maintain a relationship with his mistress Dot as he creates his painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte amid the scorn of the artistic community. The second act takes place 100 years later, introducing us to his American descendant, also an artist, burned out and uncertain of the path he must take.

Description: The National League of American Pen Women was founded in 1897. Realizing a need for an organization that would include women of the press, Marian Longfellow O'Donohue, niece of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, decided to create such an organization. Along with Margaret Sullivan Burke and Anna Sanborne Hamilton, she made plans for "bringing together women journalists, authors and illustrators for mutual benefits and the strength that comes of union. The League offers its members association with other creative professional women: workshops, discussion groups and lectures related to the creative process.

The exhibit, Eclectic Selections: From the Permanent Collection, highlights cultural objects from around the globe. Description: "Vintage to Modern - from Zsa Zsa to Gaga" will be a juried exhibit with awards. The venue will require artists to submit work incorporating vintage jewelry into their bead work creating modern pieces of beaded art, or draw from the personal styles of clothing and jewelry worn in Zsa Zsa's era or by Lady Gaga; or in some way use the celebrity's persona's as an inspiration for beaded jewelry. This exhibit will bring out the bling and be a true celebration of beaded art.

Description: An exhibition presenting a sampling of definition challenging work from New York artist Alan Scarritts 40-year career will occupy Galleries I and II. Description: Housed in the 109-seat Goldstein Cabaret Theatre, the Cabaret presents musical revues that celebrate the lyric poets of our time, from Harold Arlen to John Lennon, as well as social and political satire. Description: The Sarasota Chalk Festival is a celebration of street painting, that is a 400 year old European tradition. Hundreds of artists, young to old, beginner to expert will transform the pavement of South Pineapple Avenue into a gallery of fine art as the public watches their performance. Renown 3D street painter Edgar Mueller will work on his installation for a week starting October 23 and completing October 30th. Several fringe events surround the festival such as Sarasota's Largest Pumpkin Carving Contest, Hallowscreen Outdoor Movies, Vampire Couture Runway Show (ticketed), Art Show and Sale and performance Music Stage. Please come and be a part of this magnificent celebration of performance art!
